messy but necessary

The boards are primed, and now the experimenting begins. Some of this is stuff I was trying out a long time ago and revisiting, and some is from today. Paint. Collage. Drawing. It all needs to come out.

Maybe I'll find something new and exciting and worthwhile. Maybe it'll feel like a waste of time.

You find one way to do things, and it works, so you stick with it for a while. But eventually you feel like there are other things you want to say, other notes to play. It's messy, but necessary.

The original painting is available. (Prints, iPhone cases, etc. available on Society6)

I used a paint pen on acrylic for this; it's a departure from my usual ink and watercolour. I like the boldness of the thick lines, and the textures I can get with acrylic. I've been trying out a number of different approaches and mediums, trying to find the right one that fit with where I want to take my work. I keep coming back to this: the line. It's always about the line.
More works like this to come.

let's pretend we know what we're talking about

let's pretend we know what we're talking about

There's a ton of pretending going on out there. I'm not sure why I drew this. Is it because it's fun to pretend? Because we tend to reward those that pretend to know what they're talking about? Is it because we often mistake confidence for knowledge? Or maybe because gutsy statements are fun to illustrate?

Ink & watercolour, 8x10 inches. The original drawing is sold.
