top hat tattoo - Vicky from Shropshire, UK

Who: Vicky

From: Shropshire, UK

A tattoo inspired by the middle top hat from this drawing: the unshaven top hats have run amok

Her story: "Me and my friend decided to each get top hat tattoos, and I was drawn to this design as it is really different and matches my personality. I might have some stubble tattooed on him at a later date."

Absolutely terrific, Vicky. Thanks so much for sharing!

rabbit and globe tattoo - Maja from Sweden

Who: Maja

From: Sweden

A tattoo of this drawing: pipe smoking rabbit

Her story: She had the rabbit tattooed over a year ago, and emailed it to me. It's really nicely done - take a look. She planned to have the globe tattooed on the other arm, but couldn't afford it until she received the money from her sister as a birthday gift. Hurray for sisters! So here it is, the rabbit finally reunited with his globe. The world is his (and Maja's) for the taking now.

Fantastic. Thanks for sending along Part Two, Maja!

"God made me draw this" tattoo - Aurelie from Paris

Who: Aurelie

From: Paris, France

A tattoo of this drawing: God made me draw this

Tattooed in: Copenhagen

Aurelie's story: "I live in Copenhagen right now, where everyone is tattooed, so I wanted to make one to keep as a souvenir of this great city. I fell in love with your drawings two days before tattooing, so I suddenly changed my mind to do this one."

"if I tell you these are mountains" tattoo - Anna from Columbus

Another tattoo!

Who: Anna

From: Columbus, Ohio

A tattoo of this drawing: If I tell you these are mountains, you will imagine them as such

Tattoo artist/shop: Custom Tattoo in Milwaukee, WI

Anna's story: She had the tattoo done as part of a farewell tour of Milwaukee, where she just graduated, and was about to move to Columbus to work on her PhD.

"For me, tattoos are about art and don't need to have some deep, dark meaning associated with them.  BUT.... (when being pestered by people asking what the tattoo means) ... I suppose the theme of the drawing nicely coincides with my main attitude toward life.  That is, I think that life is about 90% perception, 10% reality, or more simply, that life's what you make it."

"I'm so excited to share my tattoo with you and think it's SO cool that you're so open to allowing others to incorporate your artwork on their bodies and into their lives - your posting of stuff like this on your blog, I think, really helps to encourage this open atmosphere, in terms of the sharing and proliferation of your artwork."

Awesome. Thanks for sharing your story, Anna!

"Jeffrey was fed up" tattoo - Madison from Seattle

Terrific! This is Madison from Seattle, with a tattoo based on my drawing Jeffrey was fed up. Here's what she had to say about getting it:

I love this image, I saw it and knew right away that I needed it in a permanent way. It's a reminder to get out of my routines, try something new, don't always take the easy way. Thank you for inspiring me!

Thank you for sharing it, Madison! See the original drawing (and you'll see why it's about getting out of routines and such).

"what to focus on" tattoo - Jeremy from Texas

Fantastic! This is Jeremy from Texas, with a tattoo of my What to focus on drawing on his arm. Jeremy and friends were on a road trip to Orange County, and he decided to commemorate the whole event with a feel-good tattoo. As he puts it, "You [well, the tattoo] will literally be keeping me up in my spirits for the rest of my life." Focus on the happy! See the original drawing here.

drinking fish tattoo - Natalia from Puerto Rico

Wonderful! This is Natalia from Puerto Rico, with a tattoo of my drinking fish drawing. Thanks so much for sharing this with us! Looks terrific. Here's the original drawing:

(By the way, when I drew this I wasn't even thinking about the expression "to drink like a fish". I was really into drawing fish though, and came up with all kinds of mild variations of fish doing or being various things.)

boombox with antlers tattoo - Sarah from Chicago

Fantastic! This is Sarah with a tattoo of my boombox with antlers drawing, which was part of a series of things with antlers. The tattoo was done by the folks at Family Tattoo Chicago. I asked her why she chose this particular drawing to get inked, and here's her answer:

Believe me, it was a hard decision. The diamond boombox was up there in the ranks...all of your work with frames is wonderful--the three portraits in frames is very Royal Tenenbaums-esque. Geometric shapes look great as tattoos, so maybe that is why your drawings appeal to so many to get as tattoos, or because most of your work is a very clever statement in a fun minimalistic package.  I really love music, so I felt one of your boom boxes would be the most fitting. And the antlers...well I also have a tree on my other arm and I really enjoy the branches the same way I like the antlers, I suppose.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us, Sarah! See the original series of antler drawings.
