Portraits are the ultimate expression of identity, yet they seldom reveal who we truly are, or what we are thinking about. So much of portraiture is about projecting an image of oneself, usually one of confidence or strength or coolness or power. Just look at the people on the covers of magazines. Appearances are often deceiving.
Anyway, I thought it'd be fun to make portraits of people and what's going on inside their heads. There's no real jokes here, no one-two-punchlines. But I do think that the mundane thoughts we have are amusing.
All drawings above are ink and watercolour on paper, 5x7 inches. Most of these have sold but you can check the shop to see if any are still available. (Subscribers to my shop newsletter got a first look at them last week).
