Here's a peek inside Serious Drawings, in case you haven't seen it already:

It's hard cover, 144 pages, with over 130 full colour images. And the cover is bright orange, so it's really easy to find on your bookshelf. I'm so excited about it, I made a banner/button thing that you can click on:

The book is here

Hurray! Boxes of books have arrived, and they are now available in the shop ($25 + shipping). I made a small, signed drawing in each copy. And each book has a different drawing.

A BOOK!!! Serious Drawings to be released in April

I'm so excited to announce that a book of my drawings is being published and will be released in April. Yes, that's next month!

It's 144 pages, full colour, hard cover. It's being published by teNeues, the venerable art, architecture, and photography book publisher. Serious Drawings is how I've unofficially labeled my work for a while now, and seems like a pretty good title.

The introduction was written by the brilliant visual-arts writer Carolina Miranda, of C-Monster fame. From the book's dust jacket: "Carolina A. Miranda is a freelance writer based in Brooklyn, New York. She has contributed to Time, nytimes.com and ArtNews and is the author of the uncouth and saucy arts blog, C-Monster.net." Saucy indeed. I've been a fan of her blog and her writing style for a while now, so I was thrilled that she agreed to write the intro.

Publishing a book is a dream come true. I've always imagined my drawings in a book. I think it's the ideal format for my work, and I can't wait to do another.

Here are some photos of the proofs from the printer. It looks a bit funny, because it's just the printed pages at this point, unbound.

Here's the cover:

Here's the first page. I couldn't decide which drawing to put first. The pressure was too great! So I drew this:

Some pages for the "drawings on regular paper" section:

More pictures and words after the jump...

Some pages for the "drawings on sticky notes" section:

The back cover, with placeholder text:

The folks at teNeues have been terrific. Work on the book began in earnest late last fall, with image selection, bio writing, etc. Most of the drawings came from the last two years. I'm so happy with how it all turned out. See the book on the publisher's site here.

I'll let you know when it's available to buy online.

The internet has been very good to me. After posting my work online for two years, it is now being put together in a book. I really want to thank everyone who has supported me by commenting on my blog, on Flickr, and elsewhere, adding me as a friend, emailing me kind messages, and buying my artwork. And a special thanks to everyone who has blogged about my drawings, and shared what I do with your friends. You all played a part in making this happen. Thank you.
