Everything is going to be OK - from Chronicle Books

Everything Is Going To Be OK is a new, lovely little hardcover book out from Chronicle Books, and I am thrilled to have a post-it note drawing in it.

It's a book full of positive, inspirational messages, all presented in a fun and fresh way.

Here's my piece - I'm on the last page:

The best part is being in the same book as some wonderful creative people, such as Austin Kleon, Marian Bantjes, Anthony Burrill, Clifton Burt, Mike Perry, and a whole bunch of others.

From Chronicle Books' description:

A little inspiration goes a long way. It's the end of the naughties, and things are starting to look up: cropping up everywhere are messages of sincerity, optimism, and hope, and the good cheer has spread to the world of art and design. This pocket-sized volume is filled with artwork bearing mottos of encouragement and affirmation. Featuring work from a diverse roster of indie artists, designers, and crafters—including beloved figures such as Mike Perry, Marian Bantjes, Marc Johns, Enormous Champion, and Yee-Haw Industries, as well as a host of emerging new talents—this hip take on the classic cheer-you-up gift book is the perfect visual treat for anyone whose spirits need a little lift from time to time.

A peek inside my "office", courtesy of Fromyourdesks.com:

I had the wonderful pleasure of being asked by Kate Donnelly to share my desk and answer a few questions for her fantastic blog, Fromyourdesks.com. It's a site "dedicated solely to the canvas of the Desk", and Kate has featured some heavy hitters such as Milton Glaser, The Heads of State, Tony Hsieh, Julie Doucet, Nikki McClure, Jorge Columbo, and a gazillion more.

Post-it note drawings about management

A while ago I was asked to contribute some drawings to an exhibition with the theme of "Manager". I ended up making 20 post-it note drawings which are now on view at the Vögele Kultur Zentrum in Zurich. The show itself is ambitious, taking up multiple rooms (my post-its are a tiny part of it), and I am one of twenty contributors. The exhibition is called Wir Manager!, and looks at the phenomenon of the Manager, covering everything from business heroes and corrupt executives to middle management drudgery. Here's a video from Art-TV.ch (in German).

There's a fantastic catalogue to accompany the exhibition (no, those aren't my scribbles on the cover):

Prints are available again!

Finally! Some of my favorite drawings are now available as prints in my shop for $20 each. That's right, 20 bucks gets you a fine reproduction of one of my drawings, signed and everything. Even some of my post-it note drawings have been made into prints.

I was so excited to finally offer prints again, that we thought we'd do a photo shoot of sorts. I say "we", because it was mostly my wife's idea. Full credit goes to her for the fine details around the house. After taking these pictures, we both decided that if this art thing doesn't work out, we might have a future working on Restoration Hardware or Anthropologie catalogs.

Go get yourself some art for 20 bucks.

I used to offer prints, but I quit about 9 months ago. So why did I stop? Because it became one of those things that took up all my time to maintain. Too much packing and shipping, and not enough drawing. But enough people kept asking for prints, that I decided to bring them back. Not everyone can afford to buy original drawings, and I'd like to keep my art accessible. I know there are other ways to offer reproductions without having to do all the work, through various partnerships and providers. And I may still explore that route — there are some good people to work with out there. But for now, I want to keep a direct connection between me and you.

Get Serious Drawings for just 12 bucks

My publisher, teNeues, has released a coupon code just for you, so you can get my book for 40% off at teNeues.com. That means you can get the book for $12! It's valid until Labour Day, it's for US orders only (sorry about that), so grab the coupon code and get on it.

Here's a peek inside Serious Drawings, in case you haven't seen it already:

It's hard cover, 144 pages, with over 130 full colour images. And the cover is bright orange, so it's really easy to find on your bookshelf. I'm so excited about it, I made a banner/button thing that you can click on:

Butter and Blood show update

Giant Robot has posted some pictures from the Butter and Blood show on Flickr. So has Stargraphics.jp. There was some yummy looking food at the opening - wish I could have been there! If you're in the Los Angeles area, go see it in person at GR2 (2062 Sawtelle Blvd) - the show runs until June 2nd. If you can't make it, you can see all the artworks and buy the available ones online. The internet is handy that way!

Exhibit at Giant Robot in LA!

Big news! I am having a show at GR2, Giant Robot's LA store and gallery. I will be exhibiting alongside the almighty Steve Weissman. I've been a big fan of Giant Robot magazine for a long time, so I am particularly excited to be involved with them. So if you've been wondering why I haven't been posting much, or had much in my online shop lately, it's because I've been busy making work for Butter & Blood.

I shipped off 30 drawings for this show. Here's a sneak peek:

I will blog the drawings from the show over the next week or two.

I won't be attending the opening, unfortunately. But I do hope that if you are in the area you'll stop in and check it out, and email me or post a comment about it!
